New Delhi: The government has notified the Semicon 2.0 scheme with an outlay of ₹1.27 lakh crore to strengthen India's semiconductor manufacturing and design ecosystem.

The programme will provide support across different parts of the semiconductor value chain, including chip design, semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, assembly, packaging and testing.

Building India's Chip Ecosystem

The government wants India to play a larger role in the global semiconductor industry and reduce dependence on overseas supply chains.

The government has also set a target of developing another one lakh semiconductor engineers, after reaching its earlier target of 85,000 engineers.

Focus on Strategic Technology

Semicon 2.0 is aimed at developing a stronger domestic semiconductor ecosystem that can support India's technology and critical infrastructure requirements.
